This summer, high school sophomores, juniors and seniors can build on their creative potential at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh’s Summer Studio, June 18-22. Registration is now open.

Summer Studio puts students in a hands-on, collaborative environment, where they learn new skills in the fields of design, culinary, media arts or fashion.

The five-day summer program at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors and offers workshops in a wide variety of areas. Under the direction of Art Institute of Pittsburgh instructors, students will work on exciting real-world projects and use professional-grade tools and technology to see if a creative college like The Art Institute of Pittsburgh is right for them.

To enroll or for more information, visit www.summerstudio.com/Pittsburgh or contact Jessica Pompe at 412-291-6620; jpompe@aii.edu or Jennifer O’Brien at 412-291-6353; jlobrien@aii.edu. All workshops are non-credit bearing and do not transfer into any of the programs offered at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

Zach Strennen, son of Jerry and Lorie Strennen of McMurray, has been selected to participate in the C-MITES Summer Program for academically talented students. Zach will attend the Robotics Programming and Design class held at Carnegie Mellon University June 17-21. He is a sixth grade student at McMurray Elementary School in the Peters Township School District.

Four members of the Bethel Park High School Forensic Team were named Academic All-Americans by the National Forensic League: seniors Madeline Balzarini, Julianna Buchwald and Shannon Fagan, and junior Jarrod Cingel.

To qualify as an Academic All-American, the students had to earn the minimum Degree of Superior Distinction (750+ speaking points) from the National Forensic League, maintain a cumulative, non-weighted QPA of 3.8 or higher and score a minimum combined score of 2,000 on the SAT.

Madeline, Julianna and Jarrod earned Degrees of Outstanding Distinction (1,000+ speaking points) and Shannon earned the Degree of Premier Distinction (1,500+ speaking points), which is the highest honor bestowed by the National Forensics League.

The students are coached by Forensics Team Sponsor Alice Ursin.
