The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces the upcoming Gallery Crawl, 5:30-9 p.m. Jan. 25 in downtown Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. The Gallery Crawl is an urban showcase featuring a wide variety of thought provoking art exhibitions, live bands, disc jockeys, dance, theater and more. Everything from the traditional to the avant garde is on display for art lovers of all ages.

The New Hazlett Theater on the North Side, hosts an exclusive screening of “Cave of Forgotten Dreams” at 7 p.m. Jan. 31. The film documents a rare expedition into France’s Chauvet Cave, which houses preserved cave drawings that date back more than 30,000 years. The film won the 2011 New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Non-Fiction Film and the 2011 National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Non-Fiction. Young performers will vie for cash and other prizes Jan. 26 in “Washington’s Got Talent,” a fundraiser for The Washington Hospital’s Teen Outreach. Nine auditions were held throughout Washington County in December and January. Fourteen finalists will perform at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at Trinity High School. There will be four celebrity judges, including “American Idol” finalist Adam Brock. An audience vote will help determine “fan favorite.”

The first-place winner will receive $1,000. The second-place finisher and the fan favorite each will receive $500. The top two winners will perform at the Washington County Fair and the first-place winner will perform at the Washington Women’s Network event in April.

Entertainment also will be provided by local area dance schools.

Plans are underway for the 12th Annual Taste of the Township fundraiser for the Peters Township Public Library in April 2013, with a new twist for ticket sales to the festivities. This year, the committee organizing the event is now offering advance tickets at an early bird price of $45 each, a savings of $5 per ticket.

“We decided to kick off ticket sales at a special price available until Feb. 15, 2013,” said Taste of the Township Chairperson Margaret Verlato.

The event will be held April 19. Tickets can be purchased now at the library circulation desk.

Pittsburgh native, Kyle Abraham, brings his company home for a special evening of dance showcasing his latest work, Pavement, a choreography that expresses changes taking place in Pittsburgh’s historically black neighborhoods.

Point Park University’s Conservatory Theatre Company presents Chess Feb. 21-Mar. 3 in the Rockwell Theatre at the Pittsburgh Playhouse.

In the midst of the Cold War, Freddie Trumper of the United States and Anatoly Sergievsky of the Soviet Union, face off in a world championship chess tournament. The two men, with the reputation of their countries at stake, prove weak in the face of love and loyalty.

Chess will have a preview performance at 8 p.m. Feb. 21 with tickets available at a discounted rate of $12. There is also a “Pay What You Wish” matinee performance at 2 p.m. Jan. 23 (tickets subject to availability).

Ukrainian Pysanky egg-decorating class will be held from noon to 4 p.m. March 9 at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center. Capt. Korean-born glass artist Eunsuh Choi opens a new exhibition on Feb. 1 at Pittsburgh Glass Center, a nonprofit, public access glass school, gallery and state-of-the-art studio. Choi is a portrait artist, whose flameworked pieces are personal narratives, portraits of her own moments of growth. “Consciousness” will be on display in the Hodge Gallery at PGC through June 16. A reception that is open to the public will be held from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 1 during the Penn Avenue Arts Initiaive’s (PAAI) Unblurred event.

Choi strongly prefers to work larger than life. “Consciousness” will include 15 original works of art ranging in complexity and size from a 10″ x 10″ x 10″ cube to structures that are nearly three feet tall.

Off The Wall Theater, Carnegie, presents “Flight from Himself” at 8 p.m. Jan. 25-26 and 3 p.m. Jan. 20.

A workshop will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 27 and is open to the public.

With movement and music, a few props and a few words, Mark C. Thompson tells the story of a man who looks back on his life and discovers a way to escape his fear. Thompson is an actor, dancer and mime.
