Alayna Astuto tossed a one-hit shutout as Canon-McMillan blanked Peters Township, 7-0, in a WPIAL Quad-A Section 4 softball game played at Elm Grove Field in McMurray.

Astuto struck out eight and walked one as the Lady Macs remained atop the division standings with an unblemished, 5-0, record. Though Kellyn Perich matched Astuto in strikeouts and walks, she surrendered seven hits, four of them for extra bases.

Abby McCartney tagged a three-run homer during a five-run third inning. Olivia Lorusso smashed a solo shot along with a two-bagger. Linda Rush also doubled for the Lady Macs, who are 5-1 overall, with the lone loss to Hempfield, last year’s district runner-up.

Yazmin Kotar, Ally Bellaire and Tara Fowler also drove in runs for the Lady Macs, who tacked on two more runs in the sixth.

With the loss, Peters dropped to 4-2 in the section. The Lady Indians are 10-2 overall.

While the Lady Indians visit Bethel Park April 12 at Millenium Park, Canon-Mac resumes action April 15 versus Upper St. Clair at North Strabne Field.
