Getting to the theater isn’t as easy as it used to be for a lot of people, especially those who live at The Waters of McMurray.
The solution for the senior living community in Peters Township, however, was to bring the theater experience to the residents.
Students from Peters Township High School performed a few of the songs from the musical “Anything Goes” at the community on March 10.
“Many of the seniors who live at the community have a hard time getting around like they used to. So the theater came to them,” said Rachel M. Anderson, publicist for The Waters.
“Anything Goes” is a story about the antics onboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Since its debut on Broadway in 1934, the musical has been revived several times in the United States and Britain. It has become a popular choice for school and community productions like the one at Peters Township High School, where it ran March 10-12 in the auditorium.
“‘Anything Goes’ is an old classic,” said director Ray Cygrymus. “We wanted to pick this musical because the past couple of years we’ve been doing more contemporary musicals … we wanted to give the kids a chance to get an old-time musical under their belt.”
This was the Peters Township High School students’ second performance at The Waters of McMurray this year. In January, members of the high school’s cheerleading squad helped residents cheer in the new year.
