Goodwill launches updated website

Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania recently unveiled a fresh, updated look for its website (www.goodwillswpa.org) and introduced a new mobile website as the agency continues to increase its use of electronic media to reach shoppers and clients.

“Our diverse electronic communications actions are important and effective ways of connecting our well-known retail stores with Goodwill’s mission and human service programs,” said Brenda Jaros, Electronic Communications / Marketing Specialist. “The new website and the mobile website are key elements of that effort, designed to create a user-friendly web experience and to provide access to our site directly from smart phones and tablets, so people can literally take Goodwill with them wherever they go.”

Over the past year, Goodwill has significantly increased its use of electronic communications by creating a monthly electronic newsletter (The Goodwill Gamut) and by stepping up its use of social media tools such as Facebook (www.facebook.com/goodwillswpa), Twitter (@gwswpa), YouTube, Google+, Pinterest, and foursquare.

“We connect with shoppers and clients on a more-intimate and personal level by providing a constant flow of fresh and informative content through social media,” Jaros said. “For example, Goodwill Facebook followers are the very first to receive information about retail promotions, new store openings, client success stories and other topics.”

Major features of the new website include a redesigned header on every page for easier navigation of subpages; a large, rotating image area on the homepage for stronger promotion of special events and news; more-comprehensive accessibility to ensure compliance with ADA standards; a prominent “sticky” footer on every page to feature links to client success stories and social media; and an easy-to-navigate event calendar.
