The Neil Armstrong Middle School Student Council reports the results of its Police Pals Food Drive: 700 non-perishable food items were donated to help needy families have a great holiday.

Michael Lockman, a band director in the Canon-McMillan School District who will be retiring this month, will be recognized for his dedication and service to the students at a reception hosted by the Big Mac Band Boosters on Jan. 15.

A brief general meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the high school band room with the reception immediately following. All current and former band students and parents are invited to attend an evening of reminiscing.

• Canon-McMillan High School, in conjunction with Chyten Educational Services, will offer a free ACT versus SAT diagnostic assessment to all Canon-McMillan High School students in grades 10 and 11 on Jan. 12. Students will receive a consultation with Chyten, during which parents may meet with a Chyten educational adviser to discuss results and strategies for improvement.

• Town Park pavilion reservations will be accepted at 8 a.m. Feb. 1 at the borough building.

The township’s municipal authority will hold its annual reorganization and regular meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 15, in the Hills-Henderson Elementary School, 50 Mayview Road. Immediately following the meeting, there will be another meeting at 7 p.m. with residents of Lawrence to discuss information for providing coverage to areas in Lawrence not covered by sewers.

For 2013, the municipal authority will hold its regular meeting on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the township municipal building.

The township’s Parks and Recreation department is accepting registration for a Tai Chi class that will run from Jan. 24 to Feb. 28 in the Collier Community Room. Reservations will be accepted through Jan. 18. Preregistration is mandatory through mail or in person. Classes run from 10 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 2 p.m. and are suitable for adults of all ages. Prior experience is not needed.

The fee is $54 for residents and $60 for non-residents.

• The Parks and Recreation department is also accepting registrations for a Imagine That Art Class that will be held from Jan. 21 through Feb. 25. Classes will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and reservations will be accepted through Jan. 18. The fee is $75 for residents and $82 for nonresidents. Call 412-279-2525 ext. 122 for information.

The Green Tree Winter Recreation program for grades kindergarten through five will be held Monday evenings now through Feb. 25, in the Green Tree Municipal Center Gym. Kindergarten through second grades will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., and grades three through five, will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. The program is for residents of Green Tree only and the fee is $10 per child. Register at the Green Tree Municipal Center office.

The International Club of the Jefferson Middle School in the Mt. Lebanon School District will hold its annual International Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14 in the middle school cafeteria and gymnasium. All of the money raised goes to the Cali Orphanage Fund to sponsor orphanages in Haiti and Cali, Columbia.

• Christmas tree pickup will be delayed by one week. The new dates are Jan. 12 and 19 when trees are to be placed at the curb. All decorations are to be removed and none in plastic bags will be collected.

Trees may also be dropped off at the public works yard off Cedar Boulevard.

Parents and guardians of children in McMurray Elementary School will see revisions in the afternoon car rider pick up. In order to make the process more efficient and safe, parents are asked to line up outside the door in the designated area in order of arrival, and meet teachers one at a time. If the student is not available, the parent will be asked to step to the side until the child or children arrive.

If a child is using transportation other than the bus at dismissal, the school must have written notification before the end of school from a parent or guardian. Permanent car riders will be issued passes and daily notes are not necessary.

• West Penn Allegheny Health System will offer Tai Chi classes for eight weeks, beginning Feb. 4, at the Outpatient Care Center in Peters. Fee is $75 for one class per week, or $130 for two sessions per week.

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh-South Hills, located on Kane Boulevard, will celebrate its 14th birthday with a Birthday Bash on Jan. 27.

The JCC-South Hills will be free and open to the community from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with free swim in the pool from 2 to 6 p.m. and free play in the gym from 4 to 6 p.m.

Other activities include prize giveaways, free SCUBA lessons, bounce house, balloon art, obstacle course contest, crafts, fitness assessments and more. Free refreshments include cupcakes, popcorn and lemonade.

Bonefish Grill will open at its site near South Hills Village on Jan. 14.

The restaurant specializes in market fresh fish cooked over a wood-burning grill.

• The Democratic Committee of Upper St. Clair is sponsoring a “Meet the Candidates Night” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22 in the old Rec Center at 1770 McLaughlin Run Road. Meet candidates for county-wide offices who will be running for election in the spring. Refreshments will be served.

Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation will begin accepting 2013 shelter reservations for Mingo Creek, Ten Mile Creek and Cross Creek County Parks Jan. 14. The Parks and Rec Department is now located in room 705, Washington County Courthouse Square. The office is open 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

From Jan. 14 to 31, reservations will only be accepted in person or by application through the mail. Beginning Feb. 1, reservations will also be accepted by telephone with a credit card. Payment in full is due at the time of the reservation.
